Land and water pollution from food waste (short shelf-life foods like avocados and bananas) continually increase the carbon footprint. Farmers and retailers have limited capacity to minimize such food losses. This results in methane emission and nitrous compound drainage into water sources. Resultant losses also discourage farmers from growing more fruits.
Amore Laboratories solves pollution caused by fruit waste through large-scale, value- added processing of fruits (a novel innovation in Zimbabwe) and incentivizing farmers to plant more trees as climate change mitigation strategies. Amore Laboratories promotes climate-conscious horticulture through propagating more change resistant trees to reduce carbon footprints and strengthen food security. The organization also provides local markets with avocado oil which would otherwise be imported.
